Well with Verizon switching to the LTE standard (which falls under GSM) maybe things are about to get a little bit easier.

That's very true. The CDMA/GSM issue didn't even cross my mind so I'm glad you mention it. Although in the long run...maybe it would make phones/networks share similar standards, making networks more competitive.

LMAO at your last sentence....

(and I'm sure there is an app [or a website] that you can use for that) :p

I don't think it would work very well in the US market. All phones would have to be made with all antennas that every carrier uses. CDMA for Verizon/Sprint and GSM for AT&T and T-Mobile. And 4G antennas would make matters worse.

But I suppose it would be possible to have unlocked CDMA handsets so you could choose Verizon/Sprint and unlocked GSM handsets for AT&T/T-mobile. I'm not sure of how Verizon's SIM cards are going to work but I do know that for now they are limited to LTE.

Then who does support fall to if you have a problem with the handset... the manufacturer for hardware issues and service issues for the carrier. Me, well, I'm a bit lazy so being able to work into a Verizon store and have them handle both is just so convenient... I doubt I would buy an unlocked phone unless it could give me an orgasm. Ooops, did I say that out loud?
