4 New Schematics for Future Gadgets
Sunday, April 11, 2010
This is a list of patents that have came out this week. It’s exciting to see these schematics, since they show the types of gadgets that we might see in a few years.
1) Wearable Gaming Headset by Apple: The concept shows how an iPod nano could be used as a gaming headset with the use of these frames. A user may be able to control the game by touch controls, head movements and voice commands.
An optional remote is included in the schematic, which could be another use of the Apple Remote.
The headset would enhance the user experience by vibrating and providing an enhanced, surround-sound experience.
The headset would allow the user to see both the graphics display of the headset as well as the outside world. This means that an overlay of text, sound, and images could be seen along with the real world.
It means that the headset could synthesize virtual worlds with real worlds.
Goes hand-in-hand with Apple’s Game Center and suggests the new course that Apple is taking.

2) Motorola 3D Phone: A patent by Motorola shows a phone that can display 3D images. The phone displays 2D images while open and 3D images while closed.
The 3D image is something that has been pre-chosen like a company logo, design, or photo.
The key to turning the 2D images into 3D images is component #120 (as seen in the schematic below).
Though the main focus of the patent is on a phone, the description also states that the patent applies to “other housing styles, personal digital assistants, television remote controls, video cassette players, [and] landline telephones.“

3) Apple iPhone Dock for Gaming: This makes the second Apple patent that has to do with gaming! (See a trend here?)
You drop the iPhone right in the dock, which creates directional and action controls for the iPhone. It’s a system that’ll make games on the iPhone operate like a traditional gaming console like the Nintendo DS.
The dock may be able to *remember* different users so that games would continue seamlessly, even if you hand the set to someone else.
These gaming docks will have wireless communication (such as Bluetooth and WiFi), allowing for competitive gaming with a friend.
Some images of the dock also show internal rumble, movement sensors, a speaker, and still/video image sensors. (Nice!)
The dock may be made in any size, which suggests that this could also be compatible with the iPad.

4) Ability to Send Money Between Phones: Although the ability to send money between two people has existed in Japan for a while, it looks like it is finally coming to the U.S.
The technology will allow you to pay others using your credit card, debit card, bank account, and iTunes.
The first schematic shows an app in the lower left-hand corner that’s called “Transaction.” The second schematic shows, in detail, how the Transaction app would work.
Sounds like a great new app, especially for people that are conducting large transactions (like buying a car or a boat).

What types of tech are you looking forward to the most? Advanced gaming technology, 3D phones, or easier transactions?
